Software Update

We continuously improve the software for BactoBox®. Follow the instructions below to download and install the latest software update on BactoBox®.

1. Download the software update file

Click a button below to download the latest software update (.swu) file. Choose the button that corresponds to the BactoBox® hardware version. There is a sticker on the bottom of BactoBox® that shows the hardware version. Alternatively, you can see the hardware version in the System info menu screen on BactoBox®.

Hardware v7.6

Hardware v7.5

Hardware v7.4 and earlier

2. Update the software on BactoBox®

Transfer the software update file (.swu) from your computer to BactoBox®:

  1. Connect BactoBox® to your computer with the supplied USB cable
  2. When the BactoBox® USB drive appears, open the SBT Access link
  3. Navigate to Software Update in the left sidebar
  4. Drag-and-drop the software update (.swu) file into the field

The software update process starts immediately and takes 2–5 minutes.

When the installation is done, BactoBox® prompts you to restart the device. On the first start after a software update there may be a data migration (conversion) phase that takes another 5–10 minutes. Once data migration is done, BactoBox® shows the Ready screen as usual.

Troubleshooting

See the sections below for specific error messages and how to address them.

Chrome–cant-be-reached–ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
"This site can't be reached" with ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

The error message indicates that the physical connection works and there is some connectivity. However, something blocks the connection attempt. Let's figure out what is wrong:

  1. Ensure that you use HTTP and not HTTPS. Click the address bar and type out http://10.20.30.40 as shown in the image below. Press enter to see if it works.
  2. Try on another computer. It could be that a local system setting blocks the connection.
  3. Corporate firewall settings may block the connection. If that is the case, you have to contact your IT department and ask them to allow connections to 10.20.30.40 on port 80 over TCP.
Chrome–cant-be-reached–ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
"This site can't be reached" with ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

The error message indicates that the physical connection may be broken, or, that there is a software issue. Let's figure out what is wrong:

  1. Ensure that there is a BactoBox folder in Windows Explorer. If the BactoBox folder exists, the physical connection works. If not, check that:
    1. The USB cable is connected firmly to both BactoBox® and your computer.
    2. Check the USB cable for damage due to, e.g., wear and tear. Often this occurs near the connectors at both ends.
    3. Test that the USB port on your computer works with other devices. E.g., try to insert a USB thumb drive to test that the USB port itself works.
  2. Ensure that the BactoBox folder in Windows Explorer contains both the SBT Access.html and summary.csv files. If there is only one file, it's a sign that something is not working as it should. Contact us for further troubleshooting. Make sure to mention it if, e.g., summary.csv is missing.

Compatibility

The software is compatible with both to BactoBox® and BactoBox® EasyCount.

The software version depends on the BactoBox® hardware version. See the section above for details. If you attempt to update the software on incompatible hardware, the software update process stops immediately without damage to BactoBox® or your data.

The internal data format changes together with the software. The update process automatically migrates (converts) the old data format into the latest data format. This means that a software update is a one-way street. You can not downgrade to an earlier software version. If you attempt a downgrade, this may render BactoBox® unusable and your data lost.

In lieu of downgrades, use the backup/restore feature to roll back to a previous software version. Of course this requires that you make a backup before you update the software.
